Cooler foods help with metallic taste or chemo mouth. Texture helps create excitement in the mouth. Together, this combination can have the mouth buzzing when the taste buds are less than best from chemo or radiation.
This recipe is also completely adaptable to suit your tastes too. So, have a play around with ingredients you particularly like.
1 frozen banana
1 cup frozen berries
Any liquid as required
Any toppings of your choice - see notes
Blend all the ingredients in a blender or food processor, adding as much liquid as required to get everything moving and combined. And texture and ingredients if you choose - see notes.
For loss of taste: Use texture like nuts and toasted muesli or granola on top or stirred through.
For loss of weight: Beef up the protein in this smoothie bowl by adding protein powder or avocado when blending. A good dollop of cream or yoghurt won't go astray either. Almond or cashew meal is a good option too.
Food tastes too salty, bitter or sour: Add some sweetener such as maple syrup.
